Classic Racing Yachts

Sheila

Built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company Sheila was launched in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1921 as design no. 861.

She was designed by Starling Burgess, an aircraft designer and close friend of Nat Herreshoff, for Paul Hammond, and was on the first American team of Six-Metre boats to race in England in 1921.

Sheila is a fast and exciting Six Metre, planked in 3/4″ Honduras mahogany all bronze screw fastened to steam bent oak timbers. She is wonderfully constructed and after the team had undertaken a major restoration of her hull, she now is in excellent condition and looks as good as she did when first launched!

Her electronics and systems have all been upgraded to a very high standard and she attracts considerable attention whenever she is out on the water – both for her beauty and speed. She is also proven on the racecourse, as winner of the 2023 Hamble Classics event.
